Defensive Player of the Year Candidates

While we wait for word on the State , Health Department and CIF on the scheduled start of the prep football Season lets take a look at the players that have a good chance of being the best defensive player in San Diego .

Mckyle So’oto / Oceanside

The mike linebacker has a throwback game very physical and quick to the ball, he looks to be a force for the Pirates this season .

Marco Notarainni / Torrey Pines

The Boise State commit looks ready to lead the falcons defense this year , Marco has everything you want in a LB , size , speed , strength and a high football IQ . Torrey Pines strength this year might be their Defense and Marco will be a big part of it .

Jerry Riggins / Helix

The last two Defensive player of the year winners hail from Helix , LB’s John Carroll and Michael Shawcroft . This season Jerry Riggins will take the lead as Helix best LB . Riggins is fast and Physical and will definitely be in DPOY conversation.

Mandela Tobin / Westview

Tobin is one of the best Defensive Lineman in the west coast and looks focused on having a big year in trenches with the Wolverines. Tobin has potential to lead the County in Sacks and be a dominant presence.

Josh Simmons / Helix

Simmons made a position change during the offseason from OL to DL and has been training hard having competed in some camps during the offseason , He’s looked like a dominant defensive player . At 6’6 , 265 he will be tough to block .

Eric Tre Russell / Oceanside

Russell was one of Oceanside’s best defensive players last season when they won Division 1 , this year the Defensive lineman will come back improved and ready to build on his impressive Junior Campaign.

Gracen Halton / St. Augustine

While historically hard for a Junior to win a DPOY award , Gracen is well above his years on the football field , having already established himself as one of the best DE’s in California Gracen looks to have a monster Junior campaign that will put him in the Conversation for best Defensive Player .

Jason Boyle / Lincoln

The tackling machine is now with Lincoln and will look to lead the hornets on the defensive side of the ball , look for him to bring energy and hustle on every play .

Jaxson Moi / Cathedral

Moi is getting National recognition as one the best DE’s in California. He’s quick of the edge and has a big frame . Look out for him this season .

Max Smith / La Jolla

The Navy Commit has a nice combination of Speed and Strength thats make him a force at LB . He will lead the Vikings Defense and be in the DPOY Conversation .
