While we wait for word on the State , Health Department and CIF on the scheduled start of the prep football Season lets take a look at the players that have a good chance of winning the Rookie of the Year award in San Diego . The Rookie of the year award will be named by Daygofootball.com and be given to the best Freshman or Sophomore Player on Varsity .

Tre Edwards / LB / Mater Dei

Edwards after a phenomenal freshman campaign on Varsity is already a national recruit and has positioned himself to be the next big time recruit to come out of San Diego . Watch this talented LB make history .

Amare Ary / ATH / San Diego High School

The explosive athlete had a great freshman season that saw him land an offer from BYU . Look out for Amare this season with his elusiveness and speed , he’s a threat to take it to the house on any play .

Samuel Cooper IV / QB / Lincoln

Cooper played well in the Playoffs for Lincoln and showed his potential as an elite Dual Threat QB , over the offseason he’s picked up an offer from Morgan State .

Chris “Boom” Snyder / ATH / Mater Dei

A Starter at Corner for the Crusaders Snyder showed his potential his freshman year and has shown improvement in the offseason locking guys up in 7 on 7 action . Look for him to continue his good play during his sophomore season .

Jaylen Hall / ATH / Helix

Hall came on late during the season for Granite Hills and showed his speed and play making ability , now with Helix Jaylen will no doubt be one of the best athletes in his class .

Joaquin Thomas / ATH / Granite Hills

Thomas dominated the freshman competition for Helix and showed his speed and elusiveness, now with Granite Hills he will have a big role playing both sides of the ball .

Micah Vanta / LB / Mira Mesa

Its very rare to see a freshman start at LB at the Varsity level not only did Vanta Start but he has some very impressive film , he’s got size and a LB Frame and is quick to the ball and hits hard . Watch out for this LB .

Matthew Staycer / OL / Torrey Pines

Staycer has great Size for his position and played well for the Falcons . With continued development he will be a great Lineman for the next three years .

Julian Sayin / QB / Carlsbad

Sayin hasn’t played a down of High School football but already has a D1 Offer from ACC Florida State , that should tell you how high his ceiling is , watching his youth highlights and his throwing workouts you can see his potential to be the next great QB to come out of San Diego .

Chris White and Christopher Williams / ATH / Francis Parker

White and Williams are both great two way athletes that were a big part in winning a CIF Championship for Francis Parker as Freshman . They will be players to keep an eye on for Rookie of the year .
